Moving In or Moving Out

A quick guide to preventing damage to your furniture whilst moving home

FIND YOUR NEAREST
We bring our domestic expertise to you.

Moving into a new home is an exciting time, use these handy pointers to help prevent any accidental damage to your furniture whilst you move.

  • Ensure all furniture is empty, and remove all loose drawers and fittings
  • Remove any pillows etc. from sofas
  • Protect corners with polystyrene foam and bubble wrap, as an alternative you can use pieces of thick cardboard
  • Don’t move the furniture on your own. Ensure that heavy items are lifted correctly and any obstacles are removed
  • Many modern leather sofas and chairs are of a modular design which means that they can be dismantled making them easier to store and transport. You may need to remove the bottom cloth to access the bolts which can usually be undone using a small spanner. Our technicians can reassemble your sofa and fit a new bottom cloth when you arrive at your new home
  • Once you have moved the furniture to the removal van check that it has been secured inside correctly so it does not get damaged in transit
  • If your furniture is going to be in storage for a period of time ensure it is protected with dust bags/sheets

If your furniture has been damaged in the process of your move you can find your local Furniture Medic business to request a free no obligation quote.
