Let the sunshine in

Don’t be scared to let the sunshine in this spring…

The sun is shining and the days are getting longer, but does the sunlight highlight some things that you wish that it didn’t?

Just as it’s important to keep your furniture away from radiators during the colder months, it’s also important to keep your furniture out of the sunlight as much as possible. Excess harsh light can cause colours to fade over time, especially on upholstered pieces of furniture. Once colours have faded, it can be difficult to rectify so prevention is the best cure.

The finish of wooden furniture can be affected too. Sunlight can cause the wood to dry out, leading to cracking and shrinkage. A lacquer or finish on wooden furniture can also be affected by intense sunlight.

If there’s no other option than to leave your furniture in direct sunlight, invest in a quality covering; a heavyweight throw or a table protector to help extend the life of your furniture.
